Play Synopsis
The play, intricately weaves together the forgotten tale of Khan Bahadur Qazi Azizul Haque with the vibrant hues of colonial India. Through a blend of poignant storytelling, dynamic scenography, and live music, the audience is transported to a bygone era, where the genius of Haque emerges from obscurity. From his formative years enamored with mathematics to his pivotal role in crafting the Henry Classification System alongside Hem Chandra Bose under Edward Henry’s Bengal Police, the narrative unfolds with rich historical detail.
Interwoven with Haque’s journey are snapshots of the national movement and the enigmatic Thuggees of Calcutta, adding layers of complexity to the storyline. The central character, a Thuggee facing execution, serves as the narrator, guiding the audience through the tapestry of events. Each thread represents a significant historical moment or character, skillfully intertwined to form a captivating narrative.
The play’s immersive experience is heightened by the evocative live music and the versatile performances of the ensemble cast, many of whom portray multiple roles. It offers a vivid portrayal of a forgotten hero and a compelling exploration of India’s colonial past.
