Ashokenagar Avijatri
Annual Theatre Festival 2023
21st to 23rd January 2023, Ashoknagar Sahid Sadan
The ‘Ashoknagar Avijatri Sanskritik Sanstha’ has been a labor of love for 37 years, nurturing our emotional growth and leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of the people. In these turbulent times of social conflict and political unrest, the organization has dedicated itself to preserving Bengali culture. Among its various endeavors, the ‘Avijatri Natyotsava’ stands out as a remarkable annual event. In 2023, it unfolded from January 21st to 23rd at Ashoknagar Shahid Sadan, just as it does every year, with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the audience.
This year, the Natyotsava was enriched by the contributions of five friendly theater teams over three days. The first day featured two distinct productions: ‘Mr. Right’ by Ashoknagar Natyamukh, directed by Avi Chakroborty, and ‘Keet’ by Bandel Aarohi, directed by Ranjan Roy. On the second day, three captivating shows graced the stage, including ‘Rong’ by Taki Natyam, ‘Gagan Babu’ by Belghoria Angan, and ‘Bisher Banshi’ by Duttapukur Alor Pakhi.
The festival reached its pinnacle on the third day when renowned theater personality and director Koushik Chattopadhyay received the prestigious ‘Arindam Bhattacharya Smriti Samyanana’ award. To close the event, Avijatri presented ‘Raktakarabi,’ a masterpiece directed by the esteemed Koushik Chattopadhyay. In today’s tech-dominated world, this production breathed new life into our existence.
The Avijatri Natyotsava concluded with the audience and actors merging in the rhythm of the song “Ay Aro Bendhe Bendhe Thaki.” Our continued success relies on your love and support, which we hope will carry forward to future generations of Avijatri.
